Are you using silver polish, baking soda, or toothpaste to clean your silver at home? You might want to reconsider! Join Melissa de Bie, History Colorado's Director of Collections Access, for a virtual “hands-on” program about silver cleaning. The first half will focus on basic facts about silver, causes of deterioration, and cleaning and preservation strategies. You'll also learn what not to do and who/when to call for help. The second half of the workshop is participatory and will focus on two steps for cleaning silver with household supplies. To participate, have one small piece of tarnished silver to clean.* Silver cleaning kits* are available at History Colorado for $15 or $13 for members, with a shipping option. Due to shipping and distribution concerns, some items cannot be shipped or supplied by HC. Purchase kit online and arrange pickup here: https://5008.sydneyplus.com/HistoryColorado_ArgusNet_Final/Portal/Portal.aspx?component=AAFW&record=c26d53f0-41b0-4e94-818c-d80da5b6ed28 Specific material lists and preparation details will be included in your registration email. *Results cannot be guaranteed due to such factors as the level of tarnish and silver quality.
